ACT1.

[INT. C-Note's Cell. Day.]

(C-Note swings from the rope and begins to pass out. A passing guard sees him dangling from the noose.)

Guard: Open on 4! (The cell door buzzes open and the guard takes C-Note's weight.) I need a hand in here!

(Another guard comes running in and cuts down the rope.)

Guard (on radio): I need a medic in B4!

C-Note (whispers): Let me die...

Guard: No.

C-Note: Let me die.

Guard: Save your breath.

[EXT. Rooftop. Day.]

(Spectators and supporters have gathered, waving 'Reynolds Again' banners.)

Woman (on radio): A large crowd is gathering along Wabash Avenue here in downtown Chicago. They're anticipating the arrival of President Caroline Reynolds who continues her tour with an appearance today at the Grand Carlisle Hotel.

(Kellerman adjusts his earpiece and puts his rifle together.)

Man (over radio): Inner Circle approaching the south perimeter. Marker One. Marker Two. Marker Three.

(Kellerman takes aim.)

[INT. Hotel Room. Day.]

(Michael, Lincoln and Sara have just been talking.)

Michael: Okay. (to Cooper Green) I think you better go.

Cooper Green: You sure?

Michael: Yeah. Thank you for your help, but, uh...there's nothing more you can do for us.

Cooper Green: Doesn't feel right just leaving.

Michael: I don't think you want any part of this. Thank you. (Cooper Green leaves the hotel room.) It's ten minutes away, right?

Lincoln: At least.

CUT TO: Mahone running up the stairs in the hotel.

CUT TO: Hotel Room.

Lincoln: Listen, this doesn't work, we're gonna need a way out. For good.

Michael: Well, that's on you.

CUT TO: Mahone running up the stairs in the hotel.

CUT TO: Hotel Room.

Lincoln: Yeah. What about Derrick?

Michael: Derrick Sweeney?

Lincoln: Yeah.

Michael: You think he'll be up for this?

Lincoln: Yeah.

Michael: All right. (to Sara.) This is your neck of the woods. You wanna meet at the park?

Sara: Uh, how's Third and Racine?

Michael: Third and Racine. Uh...(he checks his watch.) 3:15, the corner. I'll be there. If anything happens...I love you both.

(He walks out of the room. Lincoln follows after him. Sara continues packing her bag.)

CUT TO: Mahone running up the stairs in the hotel. He reaches the tenth floor and moves down the hall. He sees room 1006, and then gestures to a nearby maid.

Mahone (showing his badge): Shh. Key.

(The maid hands over the key.)

Mahone (whispers): Go, go, go! (He puts the key in the door and turns it. The chain is on.)

CUT TO: Sara, inside. She turns around and steps towards the door when she realises something is wrong. She frantically looks for a place to hide.

(Mahone kicks the door open and points his gun inside. He checks all the rooms but finds nobody. Then he notices a computer wire on the floor.)

CUT TO: Sara, hiding under the bed. She watches Mahone's feet go past, then the door closes. Sara comes out from under the bed and flips open her cell phone to make a call. As she turns the corner, Mahone is waiting with his gun drawn. Sara gasps.

Mahone (disappointed): Sit down.

OPENING CREDITS.

[INT. Hotel Room. Day.]

Mahone (agitated): When were they here? Five minutes? Ten minutes?

Sara: They were never here.

Mahone: No, no. They were here. I know they were here. Where did they go?

Sara: I don't know.

Mahone: No, you do know.

Sara: He decided it was for the best, and I couldn't take this anymore.

Mahone: It's over just like that, huh?

Sara: Yeah.

Mahone: It's over like the time you flew to New Mexico on a dead woman's ID to meet up with him? Or it's over like the time when you met up and got back together at the train station in Evansville? Or maybe like the day today, when you checked in this hotel here two hours ago. Which one is like, like that?

Sara: I don't care if you believe me or not.

Mahone (shouting): No plans to meet, no phone calls.

Sara: I'm telling you the truth.

Mahone (shouting): He's not gonna call you?

(Sara slams her cell phone down on the table.)

Mahone: Don't lie to me. You don't wanna do that.

[Title Card: Mexico City, Mexico. Benito Juarez International Airport.]

[INT. Airport. Day.]

(Baggage circles round the conveyor belt. T-Bag slips through the crowd, anxious to see his backpack. It emerges and T-Bag steps forward to claim it, but then he sees a familiar face - Bellick.)

Bellick (to a woman): Excuse me, can you tell me where I can find...?

(T-Bag moves quickly behind a pillar, anxiously watching Bellick and his backpack. He sees the backpack disappear on the conveyor belt, and he stealthily walks through a door marked 'Employees Only'. He sees his backpack on the belt and moves to take it when a baggage worker shouts to him.)

Baggage Worker: Hey. Hey, hombre!

(He speaks in Spanish, asking T-Bag what he is doing. When he gets close enough, T-Bag hits him hard with a suitcase. They struggle and end up on the conveyor belt. T-Bag lands a punch and knocks the man out. T-Bag struggles to get to his bag but before he can, it slips out and heads back to the public side of the airport. Before T-Bag can move him, the man's unconscious body turns the corner and heads out too. An alarm sounds and people on the public side begin to shout and scream. Knowing he's in trouble, T-Bag takes off running.)

[INT. Prison Infirmary. Day.]

C-Note: Hey, I need the phone. Listen to me, man. It needs to be today.

Guard: Shh.

C-Note: Look, my family is in trouble, all right? There's a man out there who's trying to hurt my fam...

Guard: Your family is fine. There's nobody after your family.

C-Note: Look at me, man. Look, I'm not crazy, okay? I know the rules. I wouldn't be asking you if it wasn't an emergency. Please. Just let me use that phone. Please.

(The guard sighs and looks over at the phone on the wall.)

[Title Card: Chicago, Illinois. FBI Field Office.]

[INT. FBI Field Office. Day.]

(A desk phone rings and Agent Lang answers it.)

Lang: Agent Lang.

C-Note: Uh, yeah, yeah, I need to speak to Mahone, please.

Lang: Can I have a return?

C-Note: Listen, this is Benjamin Miles Franklin. And I need to speak to Mahone right away.

Lang (to Wheeler): It's Franklin for Mahone.

Wheeler: I'll take it.

(Lang hesitates and Wheeler snatches the phone.)

Wheeler: Mr. Franklin? This is Agent Wheeler. I don't believe we've met before.

C-Note: I need to speak to Mahone.

Wheeler: Something I can help you with?

C-Note: Listen...I wanna leave a message for him. You tell him...you tell him that I'll do what he wants me to do, okay? I just need a little bit more time. I'll do it. Just don't hurt them. You hear me? Don't hurt them. (He hangs up.)

(Wheeler replaces his receiver also.)

Lang: What's up?

Wheeler: Excuse me. (He walks away, troubled.)

[Title Card: Chicago, Illinois. Tunstall Ship Yard.]

[EXT. Shipping Yard. Day.]

(Lincoln walks through a loading dock with a small bag in his hand. He looks across the platforms and finds Derrick Sweeney. Derrick clocks in, then turns the corner and gasps as Lincoln appears.)

Derrick: Are you crazy, man?! What the hell are you doing here, man?

Lincoln: Keep your voice down. Keep it down. You all right? How you been?

Derrick: It's good to see you, man.

Lincoln: You too, brother. You too.

Derrick: Look, if some of the guys knew you were here, they might not be too cool about it.

Lincoln: I ain't hanging around, man, I need a favour. You owe me.

Derrick: I do. You know I do. Look, it's...look, it's just your situation right now. I mean, I just had a kid, a baby boy and I...I promised Maria...

Lincoln: I didn't come here to cause trouble. I'm short on friends. I need you to hook me up. You're the only one who can do it without the green up front. I'm serious about this, man. Here. I need it. (He hands Derrick a list.)

Derrick: Okay. I'll give it a shot. By when?

Lincoln: ASAP.

Derrick: Tomorrow? The next day?

Lincoln: Now.

(Derrick gives a stunned laugh.)

Lincoln (serious): Now.

Derrick: All right, Linc. Come with me.

[EXT. Rooftop. Day.]

(Kellerman watches the motorcade come down the street through the rifle scope.)

Agent (over radio): Stand by. Marker six. Escort team, stand by. Okay, stand by for exit.

(Kellerman waits patiently. Caroline Reynolds gets out of the car and begins to shake hands with people.)

Man (over radio): Seven clear. Approaching hotel entrance. Everything looks clear.

(Kellerman tries to lock onto his target, but some people in the crowd are in the way. He follows her through the scope but her aide is in the way.)

CUT TO: Caroline Reynolds. She shakes hands with several people when suddenly someone grabs her hand more firmly than any of the others. She looks up in surprise and sees Michael.

Agent 2 (over radio): He's over the line. Got him.

Agent 1 (over radio): Take him. Take him down.

Agent 3 (over radio): Get some hands on that guy!

Agent 2 (over radio): Hold it still.

(Kellerman sees Michael through the scope.)

Agent 1 (over radio): Detain him. Detain him.

Agent 3 (over radio): Get him on the ground!

Agent 1 (over radio): Talk to that guy.

(Kellerman packs up his rifle, opportunity missed.)

[INT. Hotel. Day.]

(Caroline is ushered into the lobby. She opens her hand to reveal Michael gave her a note. She opens it - it reads 'We Have The Tape'.)

ACT 2.

[INT. Hotel Kitchen. Day.]

(The Secret Service rush a handcuffed Michael, coat over his head, into an empty hotel kitchen. They sit him down and remove the coat. Agent Kim walks in.)

Kim: Who saw him go down? Any press?

Agent: We got him down pretty quick but you never know. Somebody may have gotten a shot.

Kim: Check around. Confiscate cameras if you need to. Put out a statement before rumors get started. And get everyone out of here. Now.

Agent: We're still waiting for the response from...

(Kim grabs the agent and pulls him aside.)

Kim: You and I both know that this situation requires us to abandon protocol. I don't know what you need to tell them but I need your men to leave. Now.

Agent: Yes, sir.

(The agents file out.)

Kim (to Michael): Where's your brother?

Michael: I need to see the president.

Kim: Really? And you think that's a possibility?

Michael: She'll wanna hear what I have to say.

Kim: Oh, I highly doubt that. (He gets in Michael's face.) The only person you get to talk to...is me. And the only way you're gonna live through the next hour...is if you tell me where to find your brother.

Michael: Okay. He's in a safe place.

Kim: Be more specific.

Michael: Specifically...a place you will never find him.

Kim (removing his jacket): I had the honor to attend Mountbrook Military Academy...whose mission it is to ensure the greatness of this country, its future leadership, encouraging patriotism, building a strong moral foundation and providing the service of men, committed to the values of honor, freedom and country. But, first and foremost...they taught you this. (He unleashes his fists on Michael, who is unable to defend himself. With every blow, Michael's head dips and the room grows blurry.)

[Title Card: Rio Juarez. Mexico.]

[INT. Farmhouse Bedroom. Day.]

(Sucre and Maricruz are sitting up in bed watching television.)

Maricruz: How do you say 'cherries' again?

Sucre: Cereza.

Maricruz: Looks like you have to get more cerezas.

Sucre: Mami, I just got you a hundred pistachios with the right amount of salt too.

Maricruz: Well, it's a combination. I need both!

Sucre: Why am I a sucker for you, huh?

(He laughs and speaks Spanish as he gets out of bed. He pulls on his t-shirt and turns towards the TV. A woman is reading a news report in Spanish, that two airport terminals were closed after an employee was assaulted. Then a picture of T-Bag fleeing the scene flashes up on TV.)

Maricruz: What? What's she saying?

Sucre: That looks like T-Bag.

Maricruz: What?

Sucre: Shh... (He listens to the assaulted employee on the TV.) He said he was trying to steal luggage from the airport. He's got five million dollars, why would he...? Unless he doesn't have it. Unless he lost it there.

Maricruz: Stop it, Fernando.

Sucre: What?

Maricruz: Do you really believe that that money is at the airport? Hey, forget it! Look at what we have together. Do you really wanna risk that? We have everything that we need.

Sucre: Except your cerezas.

Maricruz: Right.

Sucre: I'll be right back.

Maricruz: Fernando.

Sucre (kisses Maricruz's crucifix): Baby. I'll be right back. (He kisses her, then leaves the room. Maricruz looks worried.)

[INT. Hotel Room. Day.]

(Mahone faces the window and types out a message to Agent Lang on his PDA. His hands shake. He takes a pill from his pen.)

Sara: You gotta know it's not real hard for me to recognize a junkie. I...I...I'm saying...you don't look so good.

Mahone: I'm fine.

Sara: Yeah. You mind me asking what you're taking?

Mahone: Here, you want one?

Sara: No, that's okay.

(Mahone throws her one anyway. She looks at it.)

Mahone: Save it for later.

Sara: Varatril. Benzodiazepine's is a hard-core tranquilizer, man. Take these every day?

Mahone: Twenty milligrams.

Sara: You must feel like you're walking under water.

Mahone: I do. It's very quiet down here.

Sara: That's why you started, right? The peace and quiet? That's not why you do it anymore though, is it? Now, it's the headaches, right? And you probably don't sleep. And you know you're gonna destroy yourself, right?

Mahone: I haven't ruled that out as a possibility. Hope we hear from your boyfriend.

[INT. Hotel Kitchen. Day.]

(Michael coughs and spits out blood onto the floor.)

Kim: There's one difference between me and Agent Mahone. He doesn't know the value of a bird in the hand. He just keeps beating and beating around that bush. But if you don't give up Burrows, I don't care. (He pulls out his gun and points it at Michael's head.) One down, one to go.

President Reynolds (entering the room): I need to talk to Mr. Scofield. Alone.

ACT 3.

[INT. Hotel Kitchen. Day.]

(Camera flashes between Kim, Michael and President Reynolds, as they wait in tense silence. Finally, Kim turns to the president and puts his gun away.)

Kim: Madam President. Could I...have a word? It would be prudent for me to leave you alone with Mr. Scof...

President Reynolds: My men are right outside this door. I have a right to privacy.

Kim: Your rights...aren't my first concern.

President Reynolds: Do I need to remind you who you are talking to? Step outside and close the door behind you.

(Kim clears his throat, glances at Michael and then leaves. President Reynolds watches to make sure he has gone before turning to Michael.)

President Reynolds: The things you do for your brother. It's impressive.

Michael: I could say the same for you. But I won't.

President Reynolds: Bear in mind that your opinion means little to me. This tape...you have it with you?

Michael: No. But I can arrange for you to hear it.

President Reynolds (chuckles): You don't make arrangements for me, Mr. Scofield. I have people for that. I'm not exactly sure what is on this tape...but I doubt it's of any interest to me.

Michael: It's a recorded conversation between you and your brother.

President Reynolds: Well, out of millions of conversations that I had with my brother during his lifetime...

Michael: I'll narrow it down for you. It was recorded sometime after his death. And this particular conversation...you might wanna keep in the family.

President Reynolds (visibly nervous): And where is it?

Michael: Twenty different copies in 20 different locations. I can call my brother right now. He can play it for you.

President Reynolds: Not on the phone. Have him bring it here.

Michael: These are the terms. You can hear it over the phone, or you can hear it on the news. It's up to you.

[INT. Hotel Room. Day.]

Sara: You know, it's why I started.

Mahone: Started what?

Sara: Using. Same reason as you.

Mahone: Why? Because you had to stay up all night during residency? (He chuckles.) Because the bass player dumped you in front of the whole sorority? Yeah, you and I got a lot in common.

Sara: I've seen people die too.

Mahone: I'm assuming you didn't make them die.

Sara: You need help.

Mahone: Not what I'm looking for. (He pulls out his gun, unseen by Sara.) For your sake, I hope your boyfriend calls back real soon.

[EXT/INT. Farmhouse in Mexico. Day.]

(Sucre walks up the dirt path to the farmhouse, carrying a bowl of cherries. He enters, looking around.)

Sucre: Maricruz? Where the hell's everybody? Mami?

(He turns round and visibly jumps - Bellick is standing there pointing a tazer gun at him.)

Bellick: Hey, lookie here. Good old Sucre.

Sucre: What'd you do to them? Where are they? Maricruz!

Bellick: Hey, hey, hey, hey. Keep your cap on. They're out picking apples for the Snuffaluffagus.

Sucre: If you ever...

Bellick: Calm down! They're gonna walk back in here any minute. Which means trouble. Unless you wanna see me try out the new T-20-Z on your bella muchacha Mari-poo, I think you'd better come with me. (He holds out a pair of handcuffs.)

[INT. Shipping Yard Office. Day.]

(Lincoln's cell phone rings. He answers it.)

Lincoln: Yeah?

President Reynolds (v/o): Lincoln Burrows?

Lincoln: Caroline Reynolds.

CUT TO: President Reynolds: I understand you have something for me. (Lincoln is silent.) You still there?

CUT TO: Lincoln: Oh, I'm here. It's good to finally talk to you. Wish I had the chance one of those 242 nights I spent on Death Row, you...

CUT TO: President Reynolds (interrupting): Please just play the tape.

CUT TO: Lincoln. He presses a button on the laptop and holds the cell phone up to the speaker.

President Reynolds (on tape): It's awful, I know. But the choice was clear. You needed to be far away from all of this.

CUT TO: Shot of the mansion in Montana.

*FLASHBACK*

Terrence Steadman (on phone): I am. I'm the isle of Terrence, far off to see.

Reynolds (on phone): But I'm still here for you. Now, listen to me. Don't dwell on the negative.

Steadman: Some people deserve to dwell, Caroline.

Reynolds: You know I'm only a phone call away.

Steadman: Mm-hm. And three thousand miles. Do you...do you know how cold it is here?

Reynolds: We talked about this, Terrence. You knew that you would be lonely but it's only temporary. His appeals process has started already. This is gonna fly by quicker than your 20s. And soon the world will forget all about him. And they'll forget about you too, I promise.

Steadman: But...it's killing me, not being able to see you. Sweet Caroline.

Reynolds: I wanna see you too. But that can't happen right now.

Steadman: This house is so big. I just...I just think of you. Lying in bed.

Reynolds: I know. Me too.

Steadman: Your warmth. Your touch.

*END FLASHBACK*

(Reynolds snaps shut the cell phone and turns to Michael.)

President Reynolds: Was it quick...when he killed himself?

Michael: Well, it was a lot quicker than how my father died. They shot him...in the back. He died in my arms.

President Reynolds: I just wanna know what happened.

Michael: Your brother apologized. He said he was sorry and then he blew his brains out all over the wall. It was quick...and it was his decision. And now it's time for you to make yours.

[INT. Prison Visitation Room. Day.]

(C-Note chuckles in disbelief.)

C-Note: No, no, no, no. Man, you know, I...I can't...I can't do it. I can't do that.

Agent Wheeler: Yes, you can. There's nothing to be afraid of.

C-Note: You don't get it, do you? You can't stop this guy.

Wheeler: Not without your cooperation I can't. But if you talk to me...if you tell me what's going on, I can take care of you, okay? You've gotta trust me, Mr. Franklin. I can help you. C-Note, right?

C-Note: Yeah, whatever, man.

Wheeler (takes out a Dictaphone): All I need you to do is tell me exactly what Agent Mahone told you. If you give me Mahone, I'll give you your life back.

[INT. Farmhouse in Mexico. Day.]

(Bellick escorts a handcuffed Sucre to the front door.)

Bellick: God's been smiling down on me, I can tell you that. First, I caught up to Haywire up in Algoma. He did a swan dive off an elevator before they could put him away but I still get the reward!

Sucre: Wait, wait...he's dead?

Bellick: Yep. Like a gnat on a Peterbilt. Hope you don't take the same route, Sucre.

Sucre: Hell, no. I got plenty of reasons to live.

Bellick: I hope a few of them are in Fox River. Or maybe if you play nice I'll throw your Maricruz a couple of bills. After I turn you in.

Sucre: Wait...how much are you getting for us?

Bellick: A hundred grand. I bet you never thought your ass would be worth all that.

Sucre: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait. What if I know where you can get 5 million dollars? (Bellick is interested.) You heard me.

Bellick: Where is it?

Sucre: I could take you there...if you didn't have to take me back to the States and turn me back in.

Bellick (excited): Where is it?

Sucre: T-Bag's in town.

[INT. Hotel Kitchen. Day.]

President Reynolds: I made my commitment a long time ago. I agreed to put my country ahead of myself, like a mother does for a child. And I thought...that what I was doing was noble and that I would be rewarded.

Michael: You were wrong.

President Reynolds: Don't you see that I'm a pawn in this too? The power that has taken over this country is like a cancer and it will stop at nothing. It is out of my control.

Michael: So is this.

President Reynolds: Tell me what you want from me.

Michael: Uncuff me.

President Reynolds: I don't have the keys.

Michael: You'll get them. Second, I want you to arrange for me to walk away from here alone. No surveillance.

President Reynolds: Okay.

Michael: And finally...I want a presidential pardon for me and my brother, fully exonerating us of all our crimes. And I want it today.

ACT 4.

[INT. Hotel Kitchen. Day.]

President Reynolds: I can't just hand out pardons to anyone I choose. There is a process - rules.

Michael: This is no exception. A document will be delivered for your approval just like any pardon. You'll sign it and then file it with the attorney general, who'll submit it to Presidential Record.

President Reynolds: Fine. I will sign whatever you need me to sign.

Michael: That's very kind. But we both know that's not enough.

President Reynolds: What do you want from me? I will unlock you myself, walk you out of here. What, you want me to drive you to the airport?

Michael: I guess I'm not as trusting as I used to be. Especially with paperwork. It's so easy to lose. Now I want you to go out there in front of everyone and announce our full pardon on live TV.

President Reynolds (scoffs): Wha...you're insane! That is not the way things are done. This is not a vacuum. People will ask questions.

Michael: Pardon! Onstage! Now!

President Reynolds: And how do I know that you won't release the tape an hour later?

Michael: You don't. You'll just have to take my word for it.

President Reynolds: Well, I need more than that.

Michael: Well, you're not gonna get it. Caroline, it's time. Make your choice.

[INT. Hotel Corridor. Day.]

(President Reynolds exits the kitchen and speaks to her men.)

President Reynolds: Adams, I need you to uncuff the detainee and bring him here to be released.

Agent Kim (quietly): What are you doing?

President Reynolds: I am going to make an announcement pardoning Mr. Scofield and his brother and he will walk away unharmed.

Kim (whispering): Are you out of your mind?!

President Reynolds (quietly): He has brought some indisputable evidence to light.

Kim: We could end this all. Right now. You're gonna let them walk?!

President Reynolds: I am the commander in chief, and you are a corporate lackey. I am making the calls now. You have no authority.

(The doors open and two of Reynolds' men escort Michael in.)

President Reynolds: My men will see to it that Mr. Scofield walks away without the interference of you and your pit bulls.

(The agents, with Michael among them, walk away. Michael turns around, staring at Agent Kim. He reaches the exit door and walks through, slamming it behind him.)

[INT. Shipping Yard Office. Day.]

(There's a knock at the door. Lincoln walks over and peers through the blind.)

Lincoln: You alone?

Derrick (o/s): Yeah,

(Lincoln lets him in.)

Lincoln: How'd you do?

Derrick: Three tickets, one cabin, one way. (He hands him an envelope.)

Lincoln: Nice. I owe you.

Derrick: No. We're even. (He hands him some beers.) These are for you.

Lincoln: Nice.

Derrick: And this. (He hands him a fifty dollar bill.)

Lincoln: What's this?

Derrick: Eddie. When you broke out, he bet me a hundred bucks you'd be caught in a week. I said, no way. Not the Linc I know. Figured I'd split it with you. So this is it, huh?

Lincoln: Yeah.

Derrick: Good luck. (They shake hands.) You take care.

Lincoln: You too.

Derrick: All right. You be safe.

[EXT. Street. Day.]

(Michael, holding his ribs, walks up to the corner of Third and Racine. He checks his watch.)

*FLASHBACK*

Michael: This is your neck of the woods.

Sara: Yeah. How's Third and Racine?

Michael: I'll be there.

*END FLASHBACK*

(Michael paces, agitated, for a few seconds then walks off down the street.)

[INT. Hotel Room. Day.]

Mahone: I don't wanna do this. I really don't.

Sara (panicked): What are you...what are you talking about?

Mahone: You can't say that I didn't give you a choice...but you never...you never take the easy way. You...And I noticed that about you. You... (He puts his gun down on the table.) I should never expect it to be any different but I have a job to do...a job that I'm being made to do.

(Sara's cell phone rings. They both look down at it.)

Mahone: Pick it up, Sara. Sara, pick it up. Pick up!

(He lunges for it, but Sara throws it to the floor. Mahone reaches down for it and Sara grabs the gun off the table. She points it at Mahone.)

Sara: Wait, wait. Don't move. Just...uh...don't move. Okay, I need the phone. Give me the phone. (Mahone slowly hands it over.) Stay right where you are. Please. (She backs out of the room.)

Mahone: You don't really wanna do this.

Sara: You don't know the first thing about what I want.

(She leaves the room and Mahone reaches into his pocket. First he takes out the clip from the gun - Sara is carrying an empty weapon. Next he takes out his cell phone and dials.)

[INT. Hotel Corridor. Day.]

(Agent Lang is partially concealed across the hall. Her cell phone rings.)

CUT TO: Mahone (on phone): You got my message?

CUT TO: Lang (on phone): Yeah. (She watches Sara hurry down the corridor.) I got her.

CUT TO: Mahone: She's on her way out. Follow her. She'll take you right to Scofield.

[EXT. Street. Day.]

(Agent Kim crosses the street and gets into the back of a black limo. Pad Man is sitting in it.)

Kim: Sir. We need to talk. (He checks his watch.) In just a few minutes, the president...is going to announce a pardon for Burrows and Scofield. As you are well aware, this is quite a departure. She's always been willing to play ball but I think we need to take some sort of action. Sir...I hate to disturb you, but...I'm not sure you realise the gravity of what she's about to do.

(Pad Man throws down a file onto the seat. It's clearly labeled "SONA".)

[EXT. Street. Day.]

(Michael picks up a pay phone.)

[INT. Sara's Car. Day.]

Sara (on phone): Michael?

CUT TO: Michael: Sara. It worked.

Sara: The pardon?

Michael: She's announcing it any minute.

Sara: Oh my God. Oh my God, Michael, that's amazing.

CUT TO: Agent Lang in her car, watching Sara.

CUT TO: Michael: Just get here, okay? I'm on, uh...Highland. It's a warehouse that runs right down to the water.

CUT TO: Sara: Uh, yeah, yeah, I'm on my way. (She hangs up and drives away. Agent Lang follows.)

[INT. Shipping Yard Office. Day.]

(Lincoln waits nervously. There's a knock at the door. Michael slowly enters, grunting in pain.)

Michael: We did it.

Lincoln (smiling): Yeah?

(They both laugh.)

Lincoln: What happened to your face, man?

Michael: If you wanna take the ride, you gotta buy the ticket.

Lincoln: Yeah, right. Well, Derrick hooked us up with a cabin on one of those freighters. South America via the Great Lakes.

Michael: Well, we're not gonna need that. (Lincoln hands him a beer.) But this is appreciated.

Lincoln: One more time, bro. We did it?

Michael: It's done.

Lincoln: Oh, I wish I could've seen the look on her face.

Michael: No, you don't.

Lincoln: Oh, yeah I do. Unbelievable.

Michael: She's gonna do it.

Lincoln: Unbelievable.

(Michael switches on the TV in the office.)

News Anchor: The president is now taking the stage here at the Grand Carlisle Hotel. The 2-hour delay in her appearance due to an investigation characterized by Press Secretary Ryan Berg as "an over-zealous fan"...

[INT. Hotel Kitchen. Day.]

(Caroline paces nervously, waiting for her cue. She moves to make her entrance but is cut off by Agent Kim.)

Kim: You are not going to do this.

President Reynolds: I'm afraid I am.

Kim: There are some developments you need to be aware of.

President Reynolds: I have made my decision, and I would appreciate you not second-guessing me.

Kim: I don't think you understand. We know your secrets too. We can reveal them just as easily. You need to ask yourself who you fear more, Michael Scofield - or us.

Man: You've got 30 seconds.

President Reynolds: Yeah.

Kim: I won't keep you. The world is waiting.

Man: Ten seconds.

Announcer (onstage): Ladies and Gentleman, the president of the United States.

Man: Nine, eight, seven, six, five...

(Everyone cheers and applauds. Caroline makes her way to the podium.)

Man: ...four, three, two...

President Reynolds: Thank you for waiting so patiently all afternoon. If it were not for the support of this great state, my home state of Illinois... (People cheer.) ...I would not be here today.

CUT TO: Michael and Lincoln, watching the report.

CUT TO: President Reynolds: Which is why I have chosen today to make this very important announcement. A situation has recently come to light, and I feel that I must take action. It is my job as president of this great country...

CUT TO: Kellerman, watching the report in a motel room.

CUT TO: President Reynolds: ...to make rational decisions when I am given facts. Decisions that are best not for me but for the people.

CUT TO: Agent Kim, looking on anxiously.

CUT TO: President Reynolds: And so...after much consideration, I regret to inform you that I have been diagnosed with a highly malignant form of cancer.

(The crowd gasps. Michael stares at the TV in dismay.)

CUT TO: President Reynolds: And because of that reason...

CUT TO: Sara in her car, listening to the report on the radio.

CUT TO: President Reynolds: ...I am no longer fit to serve as your commander in chief. In the best interest of this country, effective immediately, I am stepping down as president of the United States.

(Reporters begin shouting questions.)

CUT TO: Kellerman, whose head sinks as he watches the news.

[INT. Shipping Yard Office. Day.]

TV Reporter: Ladies and Gentlemen, in a shocking announcement...

(Michael stares at the screen, shocked and devastated.)

Lincoln: If she ain't the president, the tape's useless.

Michael: She can't pardon anyone.

Lincoln: We got nothing. (He furiously throws his beer bottle at the wall.)

TV Reporter: ...she will no longer serve as the president.

Michael: There's only one thing we can do. We gotta disappear. Forever.
